I believe that exam remains valid and paramount to measure how effective the knowledge we had after course. However, whether we agree or disagree, this would depend on the purpose of the exam itself. In this case, exam would not be that efficient if the outcome is abstract outcome such as, the understanding of the knowledge to elevate the performance level, this would be beneficial for any party (the examiner and the student) to look at the process itself rather than obtain the end result. Some students may abruptly absorb the particular topic without hesitation even they don’t fully pay attention during the class. Nevertheless, we will find certain character of student where they need to digest the topic to perform that they understand gradually of what they grasp. Thus, whenever we would like acquire their competence after they learn something, we coul observe their performance progressively per bi-week for instance to verify their understanding. Supposing the trend depicts increasing performance even if they have not yet reached out the target they set, it has indicated that those students are able to do something based on what were taught during the class. My final say, this is more fair to comprehend the process along with the roadblocks they face per period whenever they hit constant performance to achieve end result.
