In this day and age, by virtue of urbanization, a large number of individuals dwelling in rural areas tend to move into central cities in order to find better opportunities, not only for jobs but also for accommodation, better life and advanced facilities. From my point of view, this modification has had both downsides and upsides for communities. However, in general, it is a positive trend.
The first drawback is the change in the demographic structure. The expansion of cities and the increase in population are also creating a number of issues that were rare in the past. The principal aftermath of migration is overpopulation, which could lead to lowering the life quality, increasing the level of pollution and the rate of social crimes. Another demerit of living in a major city is poor air quality caused by the significant rise in the amount of toxic emissions released from power plants and industrial sites in recent years. In fact, serious air pollution puts inhabitants of cities at a higher risk of lung cancer, asthma attacks and other respiratory illnesses. Furthermore, urban dwellers have to deal with traffic congestion. Admittedly, the bigger the population is, the more private cars people use and the heavier the traffic is, the more stress people have.
Despite the disadvantages mentioned above, migration brings about numerous benefits. First, immigrants have increased opportunities, especially in terms of workforce and having an interesting social life in the city. There are more jobs offered and more people employed, which helps develop the economy of the city as well as contribute to the wealth of a country. Second, migration to central areas could give rise to the accumulation of cultural values. In fact, immigrants from various regions to megacities bring with them and practice their distinct customs and traditions, which diversifies the cultural life of metropolitan areas. This could be observed through dishes in Ho Chi Minh City, which are from south to north of Vietnam, international ones such as those from Mexico, Italy and Japan apart.
To sum up, although displacement of humans into major urban areas has a cohort of beneficial influences, its adverse effects must not be forgotten. As a whole, this is a positive trend.
