Nowadays, some universities offer graduate students skills that assist them to find employment, but some people believe that the main function of university should be to access knowledge for its sake. What is your opinion?

Universities play an important role in providing not only education but also skills to students. Whereas, many people believe that the primary purpose of universities is teaching knowledge only. In my opinion schools should emphasize on equipping their students skills and knowledge for their later jobs, rather than just underlining the academic aspect only. It is obvious that the function of universities is to train and assist students to be successful in their career. “ Study goes as a pair with practice” If you don’t know how to make use of what you study, it is useless. That why many enterprise well pay for high-skilled employees. As a result, they would benefit their family by supporting them financially. Thus, universities should teach their students about the knowledge that are required in their future careers so that they can secure a well-paid job. Furthermore, universities also have other functions that help the students a lot in their life. They organize co-curricular activities such as cultural programmes, sports, debates, lectures, …They bring students various qualities such as confidence, positive attitude which is very needed in their life. Moreover, people having a good command of social skills are likely to prosper in their latter life. For instance, the possibility remains that teamwork, leadership and communication play an integral part to combat hardships, seize opportunities as well as maintain good relationships with people. In addition, the development of technology has posed a challenge to employees to keep up with up-to-date skills such as using internet and office programmes. Students are therefore in need of the support form tertiary education in obtaining and improving such technical skills. In conclusion, the primary role of university education is to prepare all necessary knowledge and skills for young people for their career. I believe that all the graduates will achieve their aspirations in their jobs if they are well-equipped with the required knowledge.
