Some people believe it is more pleasant and better if we watch the news from channels and people who have the same view as us. However, in my opinion, watching the news from people whose view is different from yours has more benefits. I feel this way for several reasons which I will explore in the following essay.
First of all, watching the news from people whose ideas are different than yours will widen your horizon. It makes it possible for you to look at any event around the world from different views. We don't watch the news only to be aware of what's going on on the earth. One of the other benefits of watching the news is using others' experiences and taking several points of view. Therefore, I can't see that happening as long as you stick with only one view which matches the way that you look at things. In this way, you realize not everyone thinks the way that you do, and there are so many different views in the world. For instance, look at the war that is happening between Russia and Ukraine. Watching the news from Russian channels as well as Ukraine and also other countries show us there are so many different ways that people think about war.
Second, it will allow you to challenge your idea, your point of view. There is always the possibility that you were wrong about something. We all know how news people work. Many of them are full of lies. Either the government is controlling it or there are benefits for them to cover the truth. So when you are reading or watching the news it is a really smart idea to follow different sources of news with different points of view. For example, about 10 years ago, in my country teachers were complaining about a situation that they had and they struck in front of the parliament. Local TV news was on the side of the government so did we, and they keep telling us that everything is OK and we are talking to the teachers and trying to find a solution and they show some manipulating videos on the TV to show us everything is going smoothly. As we tried to follow news from other channels which were against the government, we saw disturbing videos of soldiers shooting and hitting the teachers. That day we realized how wrong we were about the government and it changed our view. It was hard to accept at first but I'm glad that I was open-minded to see what others think.
