Including PE lessons in the curriculum
Including PE lessons in the curriculum pWyg2
Most people consider school purely as a learning place and a place to fulfil certain requirements of today’s world. As the former aim of the school is to prepare students for college or university, some believe that focusing primarily on academic subjects is more valuable rather than wasting time with Physical Education classes. However, some people disagree and state that these classes should play a role in students’ lives.
Physical Education is especially of great importance for kids who are still developing. PE classes allow kids to improve their motor skills and develop their muscles through fun games, for instance, dodgeball, which often requires teamwork. But it is also not less valuable for teenagers. Sports relieve stress and anxiety which high schoolers often suffer. Being able to have fun at school could change their perspective on school. This would help them build a better relationship with the school.
On the other hand, after including academic subjects in the curriculum, students would have better chances to find out about their interests. Interests determine what they want to study and so, they create a path and goals for their future. Moreover, such subjects improve teenagers’ intelligence as well. They learn how to solve complex problems and think abstractly or differently. These skills are beneficial for children too, as they build a better basis for high school.
In my opinion, it is better to focus more on academic subjects. In my country, Turkey, the biggest dream of many youngsters is to get accepted by the most prestigious universities. To achieve their dreams, academic subjects are the most necessary. However, I still believe that schools should encourage students to attend physical activities in their spare time.
