In recent years, the family structure and the role of its members are gradually changing. What kinds of changes can occur? Do you think these changes are positive and negative? 9YGer
As the social fabric has been changing throughout the ages, the most crucial social institutions such as family are also experiencing some drastic modifications. Nowadays, the prevalent percentage of families is represented by single-parent families with women being breadwinners, what was not the case even in the last decade. I suppose that merits, which are clarified in the forthcoming paragraphs, outshine demerits of this trend. Drawing the comparison with the past, it appears that the major part of families used to comprise two spouses, whereas today single-parent families constitute the overwhelming majority. Apparently, this is the consequence of the high percentage of marriages ending in divorces due to highly prioritized convenience of personal relationships. Moreover, as emancipation goes across the globe, more and more woman become engaged into job market. Consequently, the increasing number of woman are becoming capable of making their living, while the cases of men involved into performing household chores are not unprecedented. As for the outcomes, the societal condemnation regarding the necessity to maintain family bonds by all feasible means is fading away. This provides people with the freedom to follow their own intrinsic motives and it essentially brings about higher levels of satisfaction with their lives. Furthermore, women being able to make their own prudential decisions over the life path are considerably less affected by all sorts of domestic violence. Subsequently, children are granted the opportunity to be brought up in the families not revealing abusive patterns of behaviour. In conclusion, I believe that the shift to mostly single-parent family and the increase in rates of employed women influence the society in the positive way creating opportunities to make own decisions and to bring up children in the violence-free environment.
