Google – The Incredible Journey
Google – The Incredible Journey J10
You know you are doing something great when your company’s name is getting used as verb in colloquial language. The well-known examples are ‘Xerox’ as well as ‘Google’. Xerox is the very first company which had made a plain paper copy machine. By the time Xerox has become synonym of the verb copy. However, the most popular example is ‘Google’. Indeed, everyone know what it means to Google it. Nevertheless, Google was not the pioneer of the product they have made unlike Xerox. Prior to Google some companies like Lykos, Yahoo and AltaVista had introduced their search engines in 1993, 1994 and 1995 respectively and Google was introduced in 1998.
After being too late, Google did it. The main reason behind this is the peculiar search technique of the Google. Search engines of older times were returning webpages containing the maximum number of the same words as in your query. This system did not work because people had to go through a number of pages to find what they want. Whereas, Google was the first engine that began considering links that take you to other pages when you click on them. Larry Page, the cofounder of Google has found out that data could be drawn from link connection. Therefore, Google would return those pages which has a greater number of links pointing at them. Later, Google become the world’s most used search engine on the strength of this idea.
In addition to that, Google came up with unique and fresh design. The homepage of google was empty and containing only the logo, the search box and a few links. Moreover, Google is working on everything from self-driving car to helping human to live longer but they will always be best known for their search engine which has changed our lives and language. Besides that, it is a gesture of a good idea and hard work, too.
