There are many advantages of having friends that have to go to a different school. That way, you can learn many interesting things about that school, like the year when it has been built or any other useful info for your general knowledge.
In my opinion, it shouldn't be difficult to keep in touch with them. You can use many chatting applications to communicate. Of course, you should see each other face-to-face sometimes but when you are busy, you can simply call them and talk to them.
