Freedom to choose what to study
Freedom to choose what to study on71V
Currently, there are diffrent opinions about what students should study in university. While some people believe students must learn what are necessary in the future, I would argue that they should be allowed to choose their own paths.
On the one hand, it is believed that undergraduates have to learn useful subjects like science and technology. The first reason is that more job opportunities would be available to students because these areas are thought to be favorable in the future and need workers in the expertise. Hence, people working in those fields are likely to get a higher salary and have a better quality of life compared to those in other professions. Additionally, increasing numbers of qualified students in these areas would affect society positively. For example, students in pratical fields such as medicines, engineering and technology could contribute greatly to society in terms of economic growth and better life quality through new inventions and findings.
On the other hand, I think that tutees should learn whatever they want. Firstly, some students might not be good at those so-called useful areas, but are talented in others. Because of that, it would be a waste to force them into learning science or engineering. Secondly, due to having more choices, scholars have a sense of freedom and are less distressed. This gives them the confidence to explore and the passion to pursue their own interests.
In summary, there are many advantages in studying essential subjects, nevertheless I believe that being able to choose their own paths is far beneficial.
