EXPENDITURE ON FAST FOOD BY INCOME GROUP
EXPENDITURE ON FAST FOOD BY INCOME GROUP 7yLBn
The bar graph below describes the total expenses spent on junk food by three income groups--high, average and low earners in the UK in 1990. The type of snack surveyed include: hamburger, fish and chips and pizza.
Overall, it is immediately evident the level of salary is directly proportional to the amount spent onpurchase, the major patronizers were the highest earners and vice versa. It isalso apparent that hamburgers were the most preferred food.
To begin with, hamburgers were the most bought snack amongst the high-income and average-income categories at around 43% and 33% respectively-- slightly varying by about 10 percentage points. On the other hand, only about 13 percent of low earners purchased this item (the lowest buyers). A similar trend of proportionalitywas noticed in the sales of pizza.
Conversely, the trend of purchase-income direct relationship did not follow suit for fish and chips as they were most preferred amongst the moderate salary earning group (25%). Surprisingly, proportion of the lower-class eating fries and fish was lower by about 10 percentage points.
