English in My Work Environment

I am pretty glad that my current job takes English as our operational language. Every worker has to speak English in the meeting, town hall, or even just in doing a chit-chat with co-worker. This kind of work environment challenges me to always improve my English skill in the whole area such as writing, speaking, reading and listening. Most company or institution in Indonesia does not really care about taking English as their official language. It is pretty strange to know that they even, in some way, disrespect workers who try to speak in English; believing that you will only speak Bahasa since you are living in Indonesia. I think that such mentality will only be a blocker for our development in keeping up with this globalization era. Using English in every working occasion is believed able to level up the company or the institution we belong to. Taking English as everyday language in your working environment can merely globalize your work experience and open your job opportunity to a broader scale. Furthermore, you can compete with international worker all over the world. There are at least four aspect of English that you need to master which are listening, reading, speaking and writing. Once you get high score or just fluent on those areas, you will be getting your confidence with your English which is crucial. Otherwise, your English skill would be slowly developed and it is not typical development we expect.
