It has been nearly six years since I first stepped into primary school. I have many memories of my school, but one memory stands out from the rest. It was when COVID-19 started. I was in Grade Four at that time. In the previous year, my two friends were shy and pulled me into the “shy corner” with them. I hoped this year I would meet new confident friends.
On the first day of school, I sat in the front row next to another girl who was short like me. I didn't get many chances to sit in the front row; in Grade Three, my friends always pulled me to the back. The girl turned to me, looked at my name on my shirt, and said, "Hi, Rin! I’m Namoon! How are you? ”
I was shocked; I was never in the same class as that girl, but she somehow knew I could speak English. "Why aren't you talking? " Namoon asked. I replied, looking confused. Namoon explained that she saw my name on the notice board when I got selected to go to an English competition. She always wanted a friend who knew how to speak English and figured out I could speak well. We talked and later became best friends.
Namoon wasn’t like any other girl. She learned how to speak English from copying people in YouTube videos. She was very confident and was the kind of friend I always wanted. We have gone through many things together until now. Once, a bully in my class was jealous of us- we were popular because we could speak English. Usually, he was in the spotlight because of his funny comics about a chicken named "chicky. " People started calling him Chicky after the chicken in his comics that "saves the world" from monsters.
Chicky started writing comics about monster Rin and monster Namoon. And of course, his chicken character won every fight. Then he started calling me and Namoon names. I got so angry until I shouted "How dare you call Namoon 'stupid and mean! '" After that day, he and his gang of bullies targeted me all the time. They tried to hurt me mentally and physically, but I ignored them whenever they said bad things about me. When they tried hurting me physically, I always kicked them back.
I punched and kicked Chicky many times and made him cry. I knew he was a weak guy who tried to act strong by creating a big gang and bullying small girls. What's more, he was a crybaby and a scaredy-cat. The slightest problem would make him cry, and he never dared to hurt other boys; only girls. But he never gave up. He said many curse words, threatened me and pranked me all the time. When the coronavirus situation got worse, he started cyberbullying me. My parents reported him to the teacher, and we “won the chicky war. ”
In summary, having a good friend is a good experience for us. My favorite memory of school was of the first day I met Namoon. It was the beginning of many experiences we had together, and this wouldn't have happened if I didn't enter this school.
