Central and local governments make a frantic attempt to promote festivals to create a lot of revenue. Some people think this money should be invested in social programmes for the poor. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answer.

In the present time, governments’ source of revenue is by promoting festivals. However, some people believe that this money should be invested to help poor people instead of that. Personally, I entirely agree with this statement for some reasons. To begin with, it is true that investing in festivals will bring benefits. Income which comes from hosting festivals can be an important part of the government's income. Moreover, promoting the tourism industry can lead to a better reputation of the region and may attract many tourists. In my country, the government puts effort into the tourism industry. In the event, when tourists come to witness festivals and shows, the income earned from it is invested for the development of the city building luxury structures or facilities to be established. However, some research tells us the number of unemployed individuals is increasing annually. Therefore, governments should agitate to support them and open good opportunities to acquire new occupations. Moreover, I think there are more benefits to investing money in social programs as what leading countries do. By promoting social programs, the number of crimes as the biggest problem will decrease because investing in social programmes leads to improving the quality of the residents' lifestyle and also people do not need to worry about money. This method will alleviate poverty and people can live comfortably. The government itself can carry out fame among nations. To sum up, I totally agree that by investing in social programs reduces the number of individuals lying below the poverty line so as giving enough revenue to the government.
