Sonia Maria Sotomayor is know as Sonia Sotomayor was born on June 25, 1954 in Bronx, New York, United States.
Sotomayor is the daughter of Puerto Rican parents. Her father Juan Sotomayor passed away when she was only 8 years old. Her mother, Celina Baez raised her with her younger brother, Juan. He married in 1976 and divorced in 1983.
Sotomayor attented high school at Cardinal Spellman High School, a Catholic school in the Bronx. He earned his undergraduete degree from Princeton University in 1976, with Summa Cum Laude honors. He later earned a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School. Sotomayor pays tribute to his mother, considering her the “inspiration of his life”.
Sotomayor was an assistant district attorney, prosecuting robbery, homicide, police brutality and child pornography cases.
On November 27, 1991, she was nominated by President George W.
Bush for the position in the court of the southern district of New York, becoming the youngest judge in that district and the first Hispanic federal judge in the entire state of New York.
On August 6, 2009, Sotomayor's appointment was put to a vote in the full Senate and confirmed by 68 votes in favor and 31 against.
Sotomayor has written a book with his memoirs, as a testimony of his social and professional life. It was published simultaneously in English and Spanish in 2013.
This woman has marked my life because of everything she has gone through, but what I admire the most about her is that she always had difficulties in every step she took, but that did not prevent her from fulfilling her goal. It makes me believe that despite all the adversities that happen and if I have a goal, I can achieve whatever I want, because wanting to have it is what drives me to fight for it.
