THE LIFE OF HELEN KELLER
THE LIFE OF HELEN KELLER Wma
Helen Adams Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumia, Alabama, United States.
She was not born blind or deaf, she was a perfectly normal girl. It was until he was nineteen months old that he contracted a disease that they described as acute congestion of the stomach and brain.
Helen did not have the disease for long, but it left its marks: deafness, blindness, and inability to speak. But his intellect overcame all his limitations: by the age of seven he had already invented more than sixty different signs that they could use to communicate with his family.
In 1887, his parents contacted the "Perkins Institute" for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts. They delegated Professor Anne Sullivan, who was only 20 years old, to try to stimulate Helen and teach her sign language.
Sullivan demanded and received permission from Helen's father to isolate the girl from the rest of the family, in a small house in his garden. His first task was to discipline the spoiled child. But the big step was taken by Helen when one day she realized that the movements her teacher was making with her palms symbolized the idea of "water. " To which the teacher Sullivan, continued demanding names of other familiar objects in her world (including her precious doll).
Anne was able to teach Helen to think intelligibly and to speak, using the Tadoma method: touching the lips of others as they speak, feeling the vibrations, and spelling the alphabetic characters on the palm of Helen's hand. He also learned to read French, German, Greek, and Latin in Braille.
When Helen was 24 years old, in 1904, she graduated, where Anne Sullivan translated every word in her hand, becoming the first deaf person to graduate from college.
In 1915, he founded Helen Keller International. He was an active member of the socialist party. He had a long and happy life, dying at the age of 88 on June 1, 1968. Until today he is an icon of self-improvement and strong hearts.
Today I learned that even if I have a thousand obstacles to get ahead, I must be persistent, not make excuses to do my part well. Let us not doubt God's plan or doubt the talents we have. God has a perfect plan and the things that happen to us will be transformed into little stories to tell the great things that God did in each one of them.
