Agree or disagree with the following statement: Standardized tests like the TOEFL provide sufficient information to determine whether students should be admitted to a college or university.

Agree or disagree with the following statement: Standardized tests like the TOEFL provide sufficient information to determine whether students should be admitted to a college or university. Ox8gk
Most colleges or universities will ask to see if students have ever taken a standardized test so that they are capable to understand whether they are qualified to be part of the school. It is an important standard for them to know and define students. But in my opinion, I think this type of test can only show part of a student's ability and is unable to let the college or university learn about the student. I believe in this point for 2 reasons, which I will explore in the following essay. To begin with the first reason, standardized tests are tests that have a regular basis and it might be easy for those who are good at taking tests to get a remarkable score even when they don't have great ability. To be more specific, there was a classmate of mine who is really great at testing and have great strategies for studying. He got 120 on TOEFL, which is an amazing grade, due to this the university he applied to is happy about it and takes his application, but the truth is he can barely speak in English and is also weak in the other abilities of English. Owing to the example shows that this kind of test isn't fair on several points and might not always show the true ability of someone. Furthermore, the test might just show one or part of the ability of the student, which means the school only sees part of the person. For example, someone who didn't pass an English standardized test might be poor in English, but this doesn't mean the guy didn't have any other ability, such as a different language or skill. It might be the only thing that he or she is bad at. Hence, it clearly shows that standardized tests aren't enough for a school to learn enough information about students. In conclusion, a standardized test is a great way for the school to know our ability of us, but I think there should be some other things associated with it, or else the school won't be capable to know every part of us.
