About Shellfish or sea abalone In Oman

The wealth of Oman highly depends on its marine lifes. As the extent of aquatic animals grow extremely, the importance of fishing industries have increased. Distinctive shellfish, Abalone, have been a greatest importance to South eastern coast of Oman. They are single-shelled organisms which contain soft tissue with gorgeous pearls and can be harvested all along the shores of Dhofar. Some of those shells can be used for decorating purposes as such making jewellery and buttons. Nowadays the shellfish are caught for not only its gorgeous pearls, but also its unique flavour which include omega-3 fatty acids that are nutritious to human beings. Young abalone live in small number of groups under medium-sized rocks while adults live in a group of dozen in rocky cracks. They can effectively exist in cold, nutritious water and mostly in monsoon period. Amount of abalone fisheries around the world are intensively limited due to the conditions of environmental requirements are scarcely met. A little while back in Oman, fishing abalone was three-year banned and only days of less than a month are permitted. People harvested abalone after the monsoon period within the days of October and March. Only face mask and fins are permitted concerning to avoid overfishing. By covering an area of a hundred square meter, a superior diver can collect about 600 specimens a day.
