3. What should you keep in mind when you accept a task and when you refuse to do a task? MNk6a
Based on the textbook (Sorrentino, Remmert & Wilk, 2018), when I accept a task, I should keep a few things in mind. First, I have responsibility for my task even the delegated ones. If I do not want to harm the client or myself, I must perform this task safely. Next, I should ensure that the client’s current condition is stable for my performance. Because their status may change, I must be sure to who I will find help. Next, once having questions regarding tasks, I must clarify these concerns with my delegating nurse. Additionally, I should always report what I did while providing care, and all of the client’s emotions, and behaviour that I observed.
In contrast, if I feel I do not have enough competence for a task, I have the right to refuse. So, I should remember the following things. First, considering the five rights of delegation, clients’ safety, and myself, I cannot accept the delegation if this task is not my role or not in my job description. Next, I must have an appropriate reason for my refusal. I cannot say that I do not want to do it or I do not like the client. It is not professional. Moreover, if I have numerous problems related to equipment or supplies for performing a task, I should communicate with the nurse. If we still cannot resolve the issue, I may ask other professional providers. I should be honest about my thoughts and my experiences, otherwise, I could harm the client and lose my job.
