Some people say that 'work from home' has reduced social interaction and has more disadvantages. Do you agree or disagree?

With the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, home working has become mandatory as coronavirus is a contagious disease. Although working from home has given some employees the flexibility they needed, it doesn’t suit everyone. The demerits of home-working definitely overpower its merits. Reasons for the same are discussed in the impending paragraphs.
To begin with, there are many disadvantages to home working. First and foremost, not only employees feel isolated but also face problems with staff development. To elaborate, individuals working from home may feel a disconnect from their colleagues and organisation that an office environment naturally allows. To cite an example, according to an interview on ‘NDTV’ by a senior manager of a software company ‘Quark’ revealed that because of the employees being home bound has decreased their employees efficiency as they do not get to interact with each other face to face.
Furthermore, another disadvantages of working from home are information security risk and poor broadband. Primarily, information security problems could be more likely to occur when staff is working from home, which increases the need for staff to access servers remotely. To elaborate, since most people have to use their own computers and laptops for office work, not all of them are aware of cyber security. On the contrary, even though home working has lots of drawbacks, it has some benefits as well such as financial benefits and having time to spend with family, Predominantly, people can save a lot of money and time because from home eliminates the need for a commute. Moreover, due to home working, parents can meet childcare needs. To cite an example, a survey conducted by ‘Harvard University’ revealed that 70% of employees were exalted to spend time with their family which lead to better performance at work.
To encapsulate, it can be conducted that pandemic has changed a lot of things around the globe. Given that company has to prioritize the employees’ health and safety, perhaps the ideal arrangement would be to spend part of the working week in an office with colleagues, and part of the working week at home, with a certain amount of flexibility and comfort.
