When teachers assign projects on which students must work together, the students learn much more effectively than when they are asked to work alone on projects

When teachers assign projects on which students must work together, the students learn much more effectively than when they are asked to work alone on projects P5G5J
It is no doubt that group projects can be very successful due to many creative ideas and opinions that can be elaborated by students. However, I don't think students would learn more in such collaboration with others than if they worked alone on the project. This is because group projects can be biased by social loafing as well some of the students tend to be introverts and simply learn better on individual basis. First of all, it is well know that in a group setting social loafing is very common due to everyone starts relying on each other's work and consequently every member of the group don't put as much effort as they could. For example, I remember we were assigned a history project competition where students had to create a collage and prepare a presentation. As we all discussed the tasks for everyone, the main resposiblity for the collage was on Peter who used to be incredibly talanted painter. The rest of us split the presentation into small parts and everyone learned their parts. As a result, we all relied on Peter for the collage preparation and when we were asked by the teacher about each others material we were not very confident because everyone learned their parts only. Moreover, everyone was hoping that a group member would learn better and help to answer the question. In contrast, if the project for this competition was assigned individually students would learn the entire content better. Secondly, some individuals are introverts and they don't know how to express themselves in a group. For instance, when I was in the middle school we used to get assigned theater play projects. I used to be very artistic person with extraordinary ideas but used to get loss in group projects. I used to perform better on my own. Not only I couldn't learn my part of the work but also I was too shy to express myself in front of a group. In conclusion, I believe it is not necesserily true that students must be assigned for a group projects in order to learn better. Diffirent personalities and destribution of the chores might not always give expected results.
