What is an Ideal Neighborhood

Great neighborhoods are not great by coincidence. They are great because they are safe and they offer opportunities for creativity, diversity and mobility. Therefore, a neighborhood can have a tremendous impact on people. Although people also need to consider the price and the location of the house, choosing a good neighborhood is also one of the most important elements. Having a good neighborhood can bring numerous advantages to people. For instance, it makes people have a comfortable place to relax and keep away from a lot of annoying trifles. Furthermore, statistics shows that neighborhood has a direct effect on individual behavior. That is, neighborhood is not only where we live but also the place where we build our social cohesion. There is a saying that goes, “A near neighbor is better than a distant cousin. ” A good neighbor can make people feel at home. Imagine that your neighbors are all out-going and warm. They hold different activities on different holidays, such as exchange gifts on Christmas, barbecue on Moon Festival and camping on the summer vacation. It is quite joyful when people can have such interesting activities even if they are not at their hometown. That is what a neighborhood can bring to people. It would bring them a sense of belonging and give them emotional supports when they are in need. In my point of view, a good neighborhood is the most important condition when I choose the place that I am going to live. Being a good neighborhood implies there have great neighbors because a good neighbor can bring people together. However, a good neighbor has three crucial characters. First, people there are kind. For instance, my neighbors in Taipei have a dentist, he provides free therapy program for our neighborhood. When I asked him why he is willing to do this, he said he was fortunate to have these considerate neighbors, so he wanted to do some feedback to us. The moment I heard this answer, I also felt I was lucky to have such warm neighbor. Second, people can participate in activities of the community. If my memory serves me right, I once go on a trip that our community hold. After that trip, whenever I met my neighbor, we would share interesting things that had happened during the trip. It makes me feel I am closer to my neighbors, for that trip and the memory we share together. Lastly, people there can pay more attention to personal hygiene, because I believe that personal hygiene will determine whether they are willing to maintain public environment mutually. According to the research conducted by Harvard University, the public environment possesses an enormous impact on peoples’ lives. The statistics show that people more willing to protect the environment are more possible to succeed. Thus, we can start to take action to make our life more successful. Having good neighbors can bring a lot of benefits. Take my neighborhood for example, some of my neighbors will hold activities to teach other neighbors what they are good at, such as weave, flower-arranging, and calligraphy. It not only allows us to learn extra talents from our neighbor but also enhances our relationship between one another by taking part in different activities. Moreover, the more time residents spend being with each other, the more possible they will help one another in the future. It gives people a sense of security by knowing themselves are not alone and helpless. Aside from this, people would feel touched when they receive help from their neighbors. They will understand there will always be someone backing them up when they are in need. In sum, I consider that not only the price and the location of housing will influence peoples’ choices between house and house but also the neighborhood. Additionally, I also believe that good neighbors make a great neighborhood and people can truly influence their surrounding by their action. Finally, good living quality really depends on a good neighborhood, for it makes people feel relieved and have more opportunity to contact with diverse people in the world.
