Traffic Violations on Pune Roads

Dear Traffic Commissioner, At the outset, I extend my sincere compliments to you and your team of efficient Traffic Police Staff for doing a stellar job under such trying circumstances. Considering the extremely heavy volume of traffic it is no small feat that the traffic movement is very smooth in the city. Nonetheless, it is indeed a matter of great concern that traffic violations are occurring with such impunity and disdain for basic civic rules. Common traffic violations include driving in the wrong lane in the opposite direction and jumping the traffic signal. These actions are not just dangerous as they put the violator and the rule-abiding citizens at risk, it also leads to frequent traffic jams and bottlenecks that we see every day in most areas of the city. A simple solution to this problem is placing sign boards and painting the markings like Zebra crossing, Lane separators, and lane flow directions. Another thing that will help is having awareness campaigns on the road at the signals, where volunteers can educate the violators about the consequences of their actions. CCTV deployment and real-time tracking of traffic violations will also go a long way to reducing such incidences. These solutions if implemented in the right earnest, will help not just create awareness about this issue but will also make the citizens aware of the consequence of their actions. Penalties and fines are immediate actions but what's needed is a long-term mindset change to find an everlasting solution to the issue.
