Due to urbanization and industrialization in recent times, many countries of the world are seriously suffering acute environmental threats from deforestation. There is an array of causes why people log trees indiscriminately. This essay will shed light on the reasons for deforestation and prescribe some measures how to solve the problems caused by it. The main reason for deforestation is the extreme pressure of human settlement due to urbanization. The population of Bangladesh has become almost doubled in the last four decades resulting in excessive demand for food, clothing, shelter, transportation, etc. To provide these basic necessities people are cutting down trees recklessly which harms the environment causing global warming, natural calamities like floods, cyclones, droughts, etc. For example, in the last four years due to the settlement of one million Rohingya refugees in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar area, about 11000 hectares of land were deserted. This results in a loss of 1. 5% of the forest lands of Bangladesh and more in the coming years. The time is not yet over to be careful to minimize the loss of deforestation. Population explosion should be brought under control by framing government policy. People should be made aware of the consequences of logging trees. The government should take alternative measures to settle habitats without losing trees anymore. For instance, the Bangladeshi government recently established twenty thousand houses in Bhasanchor to settle Rohingya, which will help restore the forestlands in Cox’s Bazar areas. In summary, although the pressure of human settlement forces people to cut down trees, policy should be taken by the government to make the loss under control.
