The line graph illustrates the amount of goods that were transported in the United Kingdom using four distinct ways of transportation from 1974 to 2002. The initial impression is that road was by far the most popular transportation means compared with water, rail and pipeline. As can be seen, transportation of goods by road was approximately 70 million tonnes in 1974. It experienced a slight rise towards the end of the period and reached just under 100 million tonnes. exception in 1978 and 1994 when there were two dips at around 70 and 80 million tonnes respectively. The figures for water and railway transport remained stable at 40 million for about four years. After which the former rose significantly to about 65 million in 2002. In contrast, the latter fluctuated widely over the rest of the period, returning to its initial figure in 2002. Finally, pipeline was the least common means which had a steady increase in these years. In summary, it is obvious that all types of transportation witnessed a noticeable climb during the 28 years except for railway transportation.
