The line graph above shows the emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) per person in four distinct countries (United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal) between 1967 and 2007. Overall, it is apparent that while both Italy and Portugal saw a significant increase, Sweden and United Kingdom fell slightly in the provided time period. Furthermore, carbon dioxide was released the most in Sweden. At the beginning of the period, carbon emission per person in Portugal witnessed around 1. 5 metric which was approximately 2 times lower than that in Italy (about 4. 2 metric tonnes). In the next 30 years, these two countries experienced an upward trend in the amount of carbon released per person, which was about 4. 8 in Portugal and 7. 8 metric tonnes in Italy. From 1997 to 2007, while Portugal’s figure continued to rise and ended at around 4. 9 metric tonnes, the carbon emission in Italy remained unchanged and finally stayed at 7. 8 metric tonnes in 2007. In the year 1967, carbon release in the United Kingdom was around 11 metric tonnes which was the highest among the given countries, whereas Sweden’s figure was around 9 metric tonnes. From 1967 to 2007, The United Kingdom saw a slight decrease in the amount of carbon dioxide released from around 11 in 1967 to around under 9 metric tonnes. In contrast, from 1967 to 1977, Sweden increased from 9 to 10. 5 metric tonnes, before dropping dramatically in carbon dioxide emissions to about 7 metric tonnes at the end of the period.
