The administrators of a university are revising their budget and have decided to change their funding priorities.  As a result, the university will now spend more money on sports and athletic facilities than they do on the campus libraries.  Do you think this is a good idea? 

People’s opinions are divided over whether more financial support should be added to the budget of campus libraries than athletic facilities or not. While some are supportive, others express some concern. For me, it is better campus libraries should be supported by more fund. To start with, there has been growing consensus that more money devoted to campus libraries means that more professional books would be provided. Nowadays, college students who want to get a high-paid job should have an advanced degree, which means they need to read many professional books. However, on the one hand, many professional books are so expensive that many students who are not wealthy don’t have enough money to afford it. On the other hand, most professional books are heavy and it’s always troublesome to carry these books. If there were enough books that we need in the campus library, pool students wouldn’t be restricted by their financial condition to get the books they need and students would also feel very convenient by using books directly in the library rather than carrying by themselves. So administrators of a university should increase their budget of libraries to guarantee the quantities and types of books in the library. in addition to this gain, there can be other tangible benefits. The functions of campus library can be further renewed with the more budget revised by the administrators of the university. To be specific, just some desks and bookshelves are far from enough in modern libraries and more functional areas, such as discussion center, language center, sharing center and so on, should be built, which can provide students opportunities to discuss about their studies and learn languages. By studying or making friends in such atmosphere can it be beneficial to the enterprise in the future. Take Mark Zuckerberg as an example, in the early stage of his entrepreneurship, he usually came to the discussion center with his parters to make the project about social networks in the library of Harvard. They discussing in public space of the library gave other students opportunities to notice them and even join them. An investor called ABC, one of “the other students”, had a great interest in what Zuckerberg’s team worked when he visited the the library of Harvard and he decided to invest much money to their project without hesitation after that. As we all know later, this investment helped Zuckerberg a lot for his future’s success. From this example, we can realize that the significance of the diversification of a library, which means the university should spend more money to improve the function of libraries
