studying the past has little value in the modern world npR
First of all, I agree that studying the past has little value in the modern world.
Since the majority of national laws are often discussed and legislated by the past failure, not to recur same mistakes, some people might think it is essential, especially for children to learn history. By doing so, they can know what happened in the past and think about what they could do to make our society better.
In my opinion, however, learning the past is not a practical skill for the careers in their future. Children should be taught more pragmatic skills. The information technology class in high school, for example, some high schools in Japan are reluctant to teach that in class for the reason that it has not any direct connection with the university entrance examinations, which are the ultimate and final goal for their curriculum. Although the students know the history well, it would be their handicap when they find the job if they did not know how to type in on a computer, not to mention how to use it because the schools underestimate the importance of the technology class.
How would it be if the schools cut back on time for history class and instead, they provided the technology class alternatively. I think it would be great benefits for the students. They could build up the skills of how to make documents, analyze data, do statistics, etc. . . , which we all must learn to get hired in almost all kinds of jobs in this modern world. Thus, children can have a knowledge of powerful and more realistic skills for their future by adults, especially in school educations striving for childrens' practical skills' know-how.
