Diversity in talent is the key to Professional Success! To succeed in the prevalent competitive environment one needs to be an innovator, problem solver, good orator, excellent communicator and above all a team player. To me Mechanical Engineers are a complete package. The most interesting fact about mechanical engineers is that they convert ideas into reality and solve real life problems, contributing significantly towards development of our society. Mechanical engineering is concerned with creative and imaginative use of engineering principles and science to shape the world around us, through the development of new materials, technologies, processes and products. Mechanical engineers design and develop everything that moves or has moving parts, ranging from space craft and airplanes to racing cars, from oil and gas exploration and production technologies to wind turbines. Mechanical engineers can find employment at virtually any institute where innovation is the core activity. As a result, for my academics I opted for a degree in Mechanical Engineering in my undergraduate education and graduated in the year 2015 from Gujarat Technological University. Following my curiosity in Power Plant and Industrial engineering I did complete the preliminary training of 2 days at “UTRAN GAS POWER STATION” at Utran, Surat. At that time, I closely observed and learned the design features as well as operations of equipment such as Reactor, Storage Tanks, Agitated Vessels, Receivers, and Separators in the field as well as from Central Control Room.
During my undergraduate studies, some subjects which piqued my curiosity like Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Fluid Power Engineering, Engineering Thermodynamics, Power Plant Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Operations Research, Quality and Reliability Engineering, and Industrial Safety and Maintenance Engineering. These subjects not only gave me an insight into basics of Oil and Gas Engineering but also it gave me a sense of a whole new aspect of mechanical engineering. These subjects provided me with detailed knowledge and gave me a solid framework of how oil and gas are used in industries for refining as well as for generating electricity in power plants and also for many more purposes. These industries provide a challenging environment as processes related to them are both complex as well as relentless. So, after all the research I concluded that there is a huge scope for growth in oil and gas industries for me personally as well as from a career point of view. Thus, my passion for technology and fascination of learning has sown the seeds of motivation to pursue career in the same field.
Oil and gas are non-renewable sources of energy and globally countries are suffering in recent times as the resources are decrementing gradually. This has created a problem as people are suffering from the high prices of these resources. This is where the Petroleum as well as oil and gas engineers come in and has to find new ways to extract oil and gas while using less budget and develop new technologies to recover higher amount of oil and gas as well as to lower the cost of drilling and production. Oil and gas engineers need to have analytical skills, creativity and interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills. This field has a lot of growth opportunities as the world will always be in need of energy. I wondered about the chemical reactions and crude exploration that happens in the surrounding when I studied in my education.
Due to my inclination towards the oil and gas industry, I got a job as a Production Operator cum Area Engineer in an oil and gas production plant. In addition, I have worked in a few different companies in oil and gas upstream as well as midstream producing plants, which provided me with the opportunity to explore the industry with experience coupled with the skills I learned under my graduation. Furthermore, playing the role of a Production Operator (Area Engineer) in an oil and gas production plant of about 6 years of experience has helped me gain knowledge of technical developments as well as the analytical research, used in Oil and Gas Plants, which ultimately helped me to grow in and out of the system and let me excel along the way. By working in the same field I understood the growing needs of petroleum sector in the recent era as well as the broad horizons of the petroleum engineering sector in the years to come. Still I wanted to learn in depth of field. Thus, it is an opportunity for me to pursue my undergraduate education at a more advanced level and gain knowledge with technical dexterity. Eventually, I opted for The course “Master of Applied Science - Oil and Gas Engineering” at Memorial University which will cover subjects such as Advanced Petroleum Production Engineering, Advanced Drilling Engineering, Well Testing, Reliability Engineering, Advanced Natural Gas Engineering, Safety and Risk Engineering, Advanced Safety, Risk and Reliability Modeling and many more. Which ultimately will provide me to operate the latest technologies. I am more inclined towards this field and wants to gain more knowledge related to it so I have chosen Master of Applied Science - Oil and Gas Engineering at Memorial University which is a logical extension of my current career.
The Memorial University is one of Canada's top teaching and research universities, with an international reputation for excellence across the humanities, sciences, creative arts, business, engineering and health sciences. Within a vibrant and supportive learning environment, the Memorial University discovers, disseminates and applies new knowledge through teaching and learning, research and creative activity, community involvement and partnerships. The university aims to inspire the human spirit through outstanding achievements in learning, discovery and citizenship in a creative community. Moreover, the course curriculum of the Memorial University, include studies related to fields like Onshore as well as Offshore Oil and Gas Operations, Safety, Risk and Environmental Management, Reservoir Engineering, Drilling Engineering, Enhanced Oil Recovery, Natural Gas Engineering, and Environmental Risk Assessment are a part of it which align perfectly with my interests and will help me in developing my future.
In this modern world, Engineers with a master's degree are academically sound and technically skilled professionals who are working at the grass-root level to take on challenges and the endless propel of modern technology. It is to be a significant contributor to the field that has persuaded me to equip myself with a master’s education. With the acquired education and exposure to the field, I have realized that I lack the technical knowledge and expertise as the Indian education system focuses on theoretical based learning. Hence, to fulfil my needs for practical exposure and skills, I believe that the proposed program offered at your globally reputed university will be the next crucial step for me in shaping my career.
After completing my studies in Canada, I intend to return to my home country and serve it with cutting edge excellence. As my country has an international reach, persisting with adequate career opportunities, providing me with a wide scope for jobs. Also, an international degree will give me an edge over other candidates. Moreover, this enhancement will boost my career with knowledge, skill and experience as well as open doors for me to work in Chemical and Petroleum Industries like ONGC, IOCL, Shell India Markets Private Limited, Reliance Industries Limited, and such others. The employment growth will continue to be strong in the years ahead, driven by the need for petroleum as well as oil and gas engineers.
Therefore, I request you to consider my application and let me be a part of the pedagogical education opportunities that are available in Canada. I will be honored to be a part of such an esteemed University as it will bring me one step closer to achieve my goal.
