It is suggested that the younger generation should be encouraged to do unpaid work, owing to the fact that it could not only promote social cohesion but also benefit themselves. I strongly agree with this statement.
On the one hand, by helping others without payment, it will foster a sense of belonging in the whole society, leading us to stick together. As most teenagers are full of passion and energy, they will be able to offer volunteering works to those vulnerable groups neglected by mainstream society. This will make these struggling people feel valued and cultivate a sense of belonging in society. If individuals have a strong sense of belonging in a society, they would be willing to cooperate with each other to make the society a better place, improving social cohesion.
On the other hand, unpaid youths will gain numerous social experiences prior to stepping into workplace. There is no doubt that students generally do not have abundant opportunities to have contact with a variety of people in society compared with similar peers at school. However, when they cope with others' issues for free, they will have to face with different thoughts and behaviors, knowing such differences are norm and respect them. This progress will make them learn to stand in others' shoes, contributing to social skills.
In conclusion, doing unpaid work will unite the society as a whole and help teenagers deal with complex social issues. Therefore, juveniles should volunteer to do as much as possible for helping others in need.
