A large number of people consider that social networking sites cause negative impacts for both individuals and society. I completely agree with this statement because of improper information spreaded by some sites and the impact on people’s, especially children’s behavior.
To begin with, there are several networking sites which depict improper or false information. A serious number of users are likely to believe and upload wrong information about themselves. In fact, a search conducted by scientists shows that 19% of people who are exposed to those types of information are likely to believe in those, and 38% of the users are shown as providing false data on their pages. Scammers make up a big part of that percentage which is dangerous for those who believe and make some interactions with them. In contrast to the general belief, members of Gen Z, who mostly use the networking sites, fall for these scams more than their grandparents do. You need to apply for your report to the Federal Trade Commission if you have been scammed. However, it is questionable if you can get your money back or not.
In addition to that reason, a high range of anger and false information about people exposed by those sites can affect behavior of people negatively, and children can be exposed to inappropriate information for their ages. Since phones and electronic devices are available for everyone nowadays, the system cannot be managed by governments, and parents must have some control on their usage of smartphones and other devices. Moreover, as social media can portray people’s lives unrealistically, this can cause self-esteem issues for people by feelings of inadequacy.
In conclusion, I agree with the statement that social networking sites have negative effects on users for the reasons of their negatively changing behaviors and scamming probabilities.
