While some people tend to believe that celebrity photographers should not follow & invade personal space & privacy of their subjects, others would argue that it is the price celebrities must pay in return of the fame they have earned. In my opinion, paparazzi should not trespass the privacy of the celebrity as they too deserve to live life just like any other human being.
On the one hand, right to privacy and being by yourself without being bothered is a basic human right that everyone has. Many a times, when paparazzi’s chases celebrities to take pictures, their child accompany’ s them and with all the fame because of being known as celebrity kid, they often have troubled teenage years and some star kids have admitted of going through mental health issues in the past. Some celebrities too face stress because of constant chasing and being intruded by paparazzi, for e. g. a famous Hollywood actor, on condition of anonymity, once revealed that he has faced Post traumatic stress disorder because of the paparazzi’s chase.
On the other hand, more than an invasion of privacy, the paparazzi represent a challenge to the control of a celebrity's image, and thus to their wealth, status, and power. On the contrary, Paparazzi are told to be, where to be by the PR Agency of celebrities. Since celebrities are popularly known as influencers of the society, people constantly want to know their favorite stars whereabouts and have eagerness to get familiar with what they do in their day-to-day life. For e. g. , late famous pop singer Michael Jackson’s PR team confirmed that in 2006, a woman in her 20’s trespassed the security of his property and claimed to be his biggest fan and wanted to meet him against his wish.
In conclusion, there are convincing argument both for and against the privacy of celebrity, but i firmly believe that celebrities and their families, have right to enjoy their private space.
