Some people believe that people should make efforts to fight climate change while others think it is better to learn to live with it. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Over the last year there has been a heated debate on either combating climate change in order to safeguard our ecosystem, or leave it as it is. In this essay I will consider both sides and give my own point of view. Given the alarming rate of climate change, one might argue that stricter pollution controls are needed. Decline of biodiversity could be seen as a result of human pollution practices. As forest and other natural areas are claimed, plants and animals lose their habitat. Moreover, if one species declines, it can affect other species which are dependent on it. People need to take responsibility for their actions since it leads to significant resource depletion, deforestation, and decline of biodiversity. The recent study has shown that in 40 years, the world will have consumed 80% of the fresh water available; mineral and oil reserves will have been depleted in recent 100 years. Additionally, deforestation is another serious concern, which causes an increase in global warming as there are not enough trees to absorb greenhouse gases. People should make the right choices by recycling, reducing energy consumption, purchasing environmentally friendly products, or collecting food waste for compost. Those advocating for learning to live with climate change believe that government is exclusively able to tackle environmental problems, which is a substantial financial burden for many countries. Little did people realize how insignificant they compare with government’s regulations and power. Only governments are able to alter laws and ensure that they are enforced, imposing tighter controls on companies that do not treat or dispose waste effectively. Furthermore, as the world’s population grows, people’s needs increase. This in turn lead to higher demand for agricultural land, water consumption, and mineral and oil reserves. The recent UN’s report has shown that during 2023, world’s population increases by 81 million of people, adding to the demand of food, housing, resources, and increasing the pressure on the environment. In my opinion, it would be reasonable to place more emphasis on eco-friendly practices, usage of cleaner technologies, and renewable sources. We live in the consumer-driven society, but the percentage of using renewable resources is negligible. That is why it contributes drastically to pollution and climate change overall. By making small steps such as reducing the amount of energy we use on a daily basis or redistributing unwanted or unsold food we can protect our planet from climate change.
