Should lovers celebrate Valentine's Day?

As February approaches, many people are concerned about whether or not Valentine's Day should be celebrated. Although it is now associated with the capitalist system and turned into giving and receiving gifts on that day. Such as, giving them a teddy bear, sending them flowers, taking them out for dinner or buying them an expensive accessory, I do not think they are meaningful gifts. On the other hand, the origin of Valentine's Day is very different from what we are doing to celebrate it these days. There are many legends saying that this day is actually named after the famous Saint Valentine. The most popular of these various legends is that Saint Valentine was a priest in Rome, in the third century AD. Emperor Claudius II believed that men were unwilling to join the army because their wives and families. To get rid of this problem, the emperor banned the marriages in Rome. However, Valentine felt this was unfair, so he defied the emperor’s orders and arranged secret marriages for people in love. When the Emperor found out about Valentine’s actions, he imprisoned Valentine and ordered his death. There, Valentine fell in love with the jailer’s daughter. On the evening before Valentine's execution, he wrote the first “valentine” card in history to the jailer Asterius’s daughter. The love letter was signed as "from your Valentine". For his great service Valentine was named a saint after his death. This is how Valentine's Day was born. Considering that it is a beautiful and tragic love story, there is no denying that Valentine’s Day is a special day that should be celebrated. But nowadays this holiday lost its meaning and turned into an unnecessary and insincere way of showing affection to your lover. In my opinion, there cannot be an exact date on the calendar to celebrate true love. I believe love should be celebrated everyday, and you do not need gifts or big gestures to express your affection. Sometimes giving a hug or saying “I love you” is more than enough to show your love. You do not have to make big expenses for it.
