Discussion on reading books can keep our brain active is debatable. Some people suggest that reading books stimulate creativity more than watching films and television. This essay will discuss why reading books will improve our imagination.
First of all, our imagination will be enhanced during the book reading activity. As the author sent out his/her messages through words and we have to imagine the scene and characters in order to understand the story and follow the plot. Everyone will based on their background and created an image of the novel according to their own knowledge. For example, when we read through Harry Potter stories, the image in our mind of the three-headed dog owned by Hagrid were different. We based on our own perception to visualized how scary it was. Therefore, our creativity was activated when we were reading a text.
Secondly, passively receiving imagines from films and television will kill our creativity. When we were watching a movie or tv program, the scene was pre-analysed by the producers. We were just following the thinking path of others and received their vision and sound clue. For example, Voldemort in Harry Potter Series movie was a human-like creature. The image of it had been given. We just received the idea with no extra effort needed to process in our brain. This kind of passive information processing was definitely our imagination killer.
To summarize, while we were reading, we analysed and imagine according to our creativity. Therefore, I strong agree that reading a novel will certainly increase of mind activity.
