Both of options sound good. But anyway, preparing a long presentation from home is a better choice.
First of all, it will help to gather more information and dive deeper into the specific topic related to abundance French culture. Such kind of activity will let students to be more creative and choose favourite part of the French history, plus share it with the whole class.
Besides that, presentation made by students will be able to show not only their french skills but presentational and logical as well.
At the same time, students can manage their time and avoid stress during the exam. That leads to better scores, happier students and teacher as well.
Overall, I think option B has more advantages than drawbacks. Again, it's only my personal views, however I will support any choice taken by the teacher.
