A few decades ago, carry bags, tumblers, storage boxes, etc. made out of plastic used to be a fashion statement. However, excessive usage and irreresponsible management have given birth to a menance. This essay will examine the destruction caused and propose possible solutions. Firstly, one time use and throw objects are not biodegradable and take thousands of years to decompose and end at ever-increasing landfills, rivers, and ocean. Subsequently, microplastics make way to food chain via fishes and vegetables. For instance, a recent study found presence of toxins in human blood. Reducing the usage of one-time bottles, straws, and containers must be an immediate step that we need to take. Additionally, government should enact laws to penalize irresponsible usage. Secondly, improper disposal of plastic material in choke sewer lines is an eyesore and nuisance. Furthermore, blocked undergroud drainage system causes security hazard as well. To tackle this problem, appropriate waste management mechanism needs to implmented by the law makers. In addition to the municipal corporation, society should be accountable to segregate the household waste responsibily in separate bins. To sum up, extensive usage of various plastic products, is a grave problem as it is impacting ecological balance and marine life. Unless government establish stringent laws and common people follow them, there will not be a way out of this alarming situation
