PHYSICAL STRENGTH or MENTAL STRENGTH for athletes ?
PHYSICAL STRENGTH or MENTAL STRENGTH for athletes? V26em
Whether athletes should pay more attention to one type of strength ignites a heated debate. While some people argue that physical condition is more vital to the success of sports players, others think that mental strength decides the quality of a good performance. In my opinion, both of them are key factors leading to a successful sportsman.
On the one hand, most sports games entail a top level of physical fitness. Firstly, it is undeniable that sports participants have to work with high intensity; therefore, possessing good muscular strength helps to avoid unwanted injuries, or their career would be ruined. Take football as a telling example. Chirstinando Ronaldo, a football superstar, has devoted his life to improving his flexibility and stamina. Moreover, having outstanding corporal strength significantly increases the opportunities to gain superior advantages over their opponents. As a result, athletes make efforts to undergo harsh vigorous training to build their muscles to gain best performances. Vietnamese football teams, despite having undying spirits and smart strategies, still lost its medal to stronger competitors due to strength limitations.
On the other hand, mental toughness constitutes an important factor in virtually every sports. One reason is that following a dream to become professional athletes requires a plethora of efforts. In this case, great determination and spirit of never giving up are needed in every sportsperson, encouraging them to come up with most appropriate strategies and tactics to defeat their rivals. Another reason is that under the intense pressure of each match, only strong-minded people can keep calm during the game and are able to maintain a conscious mindset to make breakthroughs in the games. If not, their display would be worsened by anger and feelings of unmotivation. Nick Vucci, notwithstanding being gravely handicapped, taught himself to master swimming against all odds
In conclusion, it seems to me that in any professional sports, sports athletes should give attention not only to physical tenacity but also mental fitness
