Academic competition is getting higher everyday in education industry. While formal examinations can represent a students' basic understanding of knowledge at university level, I disagree that assessment like course and project work can be proven as a poor measure of student ability. In the following paragraphs, I shall put forth my arguments to support my view.
It is irrefutable that examinations, taken either in written or practical, gives a perfect clarification of a pupil's intelligence at a certain level. The transformation from school level to college can be hard for some students but the real test is how they pass through this conversion and score well in examinations too. One can depict their knowledge based on their result in this case.
On the other hand, a junior's skills is also tested based on their performance in course and project work. The course work can help them to expand their horizon and to explore about various things. Moreover, projects encourages them to increase their creativity and their thinking on presentation. If some students are allocated a project as a team, it can teach them to socialize and cooperation with each other and on how to work as a unity. In addition, continuous assessment helps a candidate in their latter life, as the grasped knowledge turns out to be useful during interviews or as an employee or entrepreneur.
To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that, mandatory assignments are as important in education as formal examinations and it holds major impact on one's life.
