Obesity among western socities
Obesity among western socities 82wxr
Western societies are witnessing an increase in the number of obese children in the last ten years. Obesity has become a matter of concern and demands immediate action to keep it under control.
There are many underlying causes of obesity. The fast-paced unhealthy lifestyle as seen in many developed countries such as USA, England, etc. primarily includes a rise in the consumption of fast food along with little to no time for physical exercise. Even parents do not spend quality time with their kids to educate them about nutrition and healthy food habits. For example, a large percentage of women have started working in the recent times which has caused them to spend less time at home with their children and in turn they do not develop the right eating habits.
The above stated causes lead to severe physical and mental effects. The most prominent effect seen among children is low self esteem and confidence as they face bullying in school. For example, I used to be overweight when I was in school and my peers would tease me by calling names such as football. Sedentary lifestyle is also a root cause of various diseases. Obese children are more prone to develop diseases at an early age such as high blood pressure, heart problems and diabetes, which earlier were known as diseases for the adults only. For example, one of my friends suffers from high blood pressure and she found about it when she was merely 12 years old.
To sum up, it is necessary to create awareness and educate children about the consequences of being obese. Parents should closely monitor childrens’ eating habits. Schools should mandatorily conduct fitness and yoga classes so that children can be motivated to exercise and stay fit.
