My cause for concern about nuclear disaster
My cause for concern about nuclear disaster G8YYm
The thing I’m concerned about at the moment is the Chernobyl disaster.
Let me explain why. I’ve been reading lots of newspapers articles on the subject, but I’ve never attention about that. But, few days ago my teacher and classmates are researched Chernobyl disaster on geography lesson. Therefore, I watched about that movie, read lots of information and saw many pathetic pictures and I knew how this accident has influenced our health and environment. Also, personal interest I’ve been continued researching.
The Chernobyl disaster was a nuclear accident that occurred on 26 April 1986 at the No. 4 reactor in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, near the city of Pripyat in the North of Ukrainian SSR in the Soviet Union. It is considered the worst nuclear disaster in history both in cost casualties. It is one of only two nuclear energy accidents rated at seven on the International Nuclear Event Scale, the other being the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan.
I have two more concerns. Firstly, I worry that the Ukrainian people health. What do you think that disaster influenced how many people’s health? The scientists have registered different numbers of Chernobyl people affected because of the catastrophe: from 30 to 800 thousand people. Moreover, another 3. 5 million population presumably are seriously ill. In fact, how many people affected by Chernobyl? The committee registered 134 people from Chernobyl, which have acute radiation malady. Yet in the five years immediately following the 1986 accident, Ukrainian officials and scientists confirmed a regional cancer rate increase of well over 5% in adults and 90% in the region's children.
Secondly, I worry that how did radiation affect plants and animals? The radioactive materials released by the accident had many immediate harmful effects on plants and animals living within 20 to 30 km of the Chernobyl power plant at the time of the accident. The effect on the local environment was catastrophic. A nearby woodland became known as the “Red Forest”, from the rust coloured needles dropping from the dead pine trees. It is still one of the most radioactive places on earth. Animals and plants suffered mutations, stunted growth and behavioural anomalies.
Finally, I’m worried about those people’s health and the environment.
