Dear Hannah, It is great that you are moving to Sydney, so I would like to give you some tips and recommendations on how to get better in English, before you make the move. There are three important skills, that you’ll need to master. Firstly, it is essential to get better at listening, as you’ll need to be able to understand what people are saying. Great way to practice that is listening to podcasts. Always choose podcasts with topic you enjoy, because that will keep you focused, rather than bored. Try to listen carefully and catch every word. However, there always will be new and unknown words, so make sure you write them down, and add them to your vocabulary list. Secondly, you’ll need to broaden your vocabulary, thus I would encourage you to start with making a list. Write down all the words you can’t understand and find their meaning in a dictionary. Of course you will have to learn all of them, to be able to use them effectively. I personally use an app that helps me memorize new vocabulary, plus it shows me examples of their use in sentences, which is very handy. Don’t forget to practice pronounciation as well. Now when I mentioned pronounciation, I am getting to my last point, which is speaking. Again, only thing that can help you improve is practice. Just speak, speak and speak, we can even set up time for a video call which would allow us both to work on our speaking abillities and get better together. What do you think? I hope this will be helpful for you, I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Kamila
