Many people believe that formal “pen and paper” examinations are not the best method of assessing educational achievement. Discuss this view and give your own opinion. Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience

Now a days, most of the people evaluate a person on the basis of his academic performance. A plenty of people trust that examinations conducted on pen and paper are not the best method of judging educational capability. One of the major reason that I strongly believe this statement is because, majority of the people will not be able to express their ideas in written format. To begin with, each person is unique. They have their own ideas and capabilities. Some people may be able to express their ideas through written form. But there are also other people who excell at expressing their ideas orally. For instance, one of my friend who is very talented in public speaking does not score well in pen and paper exam. However, she achieves high marks in all her viva exams. From this, it is evident that pen and paper examinations are not encouraged by some people. Additionally, assessments conducted in written format usually contains multiple choice questions, long answer type questions and short answer type questions. So a person can only answer to the particular question. They cannot express more than what they are expected to answer. Coveying their skills through written format can be challenging. Skills can be determined more accurately if the traditional way of conducting tests are reduced. In my opinion, the ability of a person must be analysed not only through written format. It can include other ways where examinee can express their throughts orally. To sum up, assessments conducted through pen and paper format does not always judge the educational achievement of a person since each person is different and contains different caliber.
