The table shows the percentage of different kinds of books which were lent from public libraries between 1995 and 2015.
Overall, it is obviously that adult fiction was the most borrowed genre from the library, compared to audio-visual books, which suffered the lowest figure. Nevertheless, an upward trend was seen in the proportion of audio-visual during twenty-year period
The percentage of adult fiction accounted for over a half in the first year and continued to drop by 3% until 2015 (39%). By contrast, audio-visual exprienced the lowest position among all, at 5% in 1995. Its expenditure went up by 3% over the next decade and made up a small minority in the last year (17%).
Both the proportions of adult non-fiction and children’s books remained stably at roughly one forth over five-year period starting from 2000. However, the expenditure of adult non-fiction decreased by 1%, while that of children’s went down to 23% in the final year.
