Telling your teacher that your dog ate your homework is a traditional excuse and is in fact sometimes true, although as we move online it is becoming harder and harder to believe. Is it a good idea though, and is it fair to your canine companion?
On the one hand, it does sometimes happen, so this excuse can get you out of trouble and you might get an extension, especially if you can produce damp chewed up papers. As a result, you have a little more time for that last piece of homework. Furthermore, your hound has no idea what he has been accused of and cannot tell your secret to anyone, so it is quite a safe excuse.
On the other hand, your teacher may not believe you, as it is such a clichéd excuse. While you might get away with it this time, you are less likely to be trusted if you need an extension another time. Also, if they ever meet your dog, they might not be as nice to them, and that is not really fair for your best friend.
To sum up, falsely blaming your dog for eating your homework may work once. However, it will almost certainly make your teacher suspicious and could lead to them thinking less of your dog, and who would want that?
