It is sometimes argued that the persistent broadcasting of sports on television could deter the young people to play any sport as part of their daily life. I disagree with this statement, on the contrary, I think that the sport’s transmission on TV encourages the youngest to take part in sports.
In some countries, it is true that TV has been associated with negative impacts on the young, mostly because of the continuous exposure to TV could cause a sedentary lifestyle. In addition, the existence of TV programs with dangerous content for youth is undeniable. Despite of these drawbacks, TV can also have a good influence on young people, if it is well used, as it happens in the case of coverage of sports.
Sport TV programs play an important role in the youngest lives. Firstly, along the history, these kinds of programs have achieved to increase the knowledge and interest in different kinds of sports such as football, volleyball, tennis, swimming, among others. For instance, some sport stars first discovered some of these sports while they were watching any sport TV program. Secondly, around the sport there are some vital values and attitudes which are very useful for young people as teamwork, commitment, empowerment, etc.
In conclusion, I do not consider that sport TV programs despond the young to play sports, although there are any programs that could be inappropriate for them, I think specifically sport programs open a new world with a lor of opportunities for young people and encourage them to involve in.
