Have you ever thought about how different generations happen to mix up nowadays? How older people are forced to coexist with more improved technology? Well, I have the answer to such questions as a person who happens to live in a huge house with my extended family. In other words, many generations collide in this household.
I happen to live with my grandparents, who are both considered and classified as old schoolers. They lead a vintage lifestyle while sharing the same mindset. However, they were obliged to coexist with newer techniques and methods alongside their age mates. The internet is one of the major obstacles they had to face as they had to overcome their hardships and learn to rely on it to get the latest buzz. In the olden days, my grandparents would get a newspaper delivered to them every morning. Such newspapers included all the information they needed to know about what was going on around the world. Then, they would share what they read with their family. On the one hand, that method was a great example of how families used to bond back then. In contrast, these newspapers included things that were a day or two behind, meaning that people would get delayed news. On the other hand, the internet provides users with all the latest information at the fastest pace. Therefore, making people feel more included and up to date.
This concept was a bit hard to explain to my grandparents at first as they were too reliant on what newspapers and TV’s had to offer. However, they gradually began to grasp how much of an old school lifestyle they were living. Soon enough, they began to create social media accounts for themselves and keep up with what was going on around the globe. A normal day in our life today would start by us eating breakfast together while going on our phones to check how the stock market is doing, as well as how at peace the world is. To our surprise, my grandfather was the one who let us know about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, which came as a shock to us all as he somehow happened to know prior to us.
To conclude, this was all a summary of how the transition from relying on newspapers to being dependent on wi-fi occurred at our house. Personally, I felt like it was a challenge that was impossible to succeed at, but my grandparents being more interested made all that worry go away. As far as I am concerned, people should strive to let their elders know how important living with technology is today as it'll aid them in continuing and going on with their days easily.
