How can we motivate employees in a shrinking organisation?

How can we motivate employees in a shrinking organisation? adBjo
Employees give their best when they are motivated. When times are tough, and the company is shrinking, managers must help employees stay engaged, focused and motivated. Sometimes no team-building exercise or pat on the back can completely restore workplace confidence. This essay discuss the main problem associated with this issue and propose some ideas to motivate employees in uncertain times. In a critical situation, an ordinary manager may think that they need new ways of managing, but as satated in literatures on efficient management, the most skilled leaders are those who try to reinforce prevailing methods instead of abandoning the current ones. There are multiple strategies for employers to incentivise their employees. First of all, employees may need frequent assurances. If the door is kept open to them, they will be assured that their voice will be heard. Anyhow, a fair manager should not evasive or promise anything they can't fulfill. It is true that more mobile employees are inherently motivated, but this should not cause a manager to underestimate the power of encouraging. The manager needs to know enough about her employees to know what makes everyone happy (some are interested in monetary awards and some in being nominated). On the other hand, for prominent employees, being unaware of the overall landscape is annoying. These people really value their work and carry more burden, so they need to know the purpose of the work. When they do not know the ultimate goal, they feel alienated and aimless. This is where they will look for this goal elsewhere. Some believe that the best way to motivate employees is to increase the salary. No doubt that financial stability offered by a job stimulates people to complete their duties faster and achieve the company’s targets. When a company is starting to downsize and is forced to lay off a number of its employees, the remained workers realize that they have to work harder to compensate for the dismissed employees and meet the boss' expectations and to make themselves worthwhile. Therefore, the demand for salary increases will definitely intensify. Nevertheless, in a declinig organization which is undoublty facing a lot of financial constraints, I believe that creating an enjoyable working environment is more realistic and essential if one wishes an increase in productivity and better employee performances. It is clear that in order to run any company, a number of laws must be enacted. , but cumbersome laws also bother people. effective employees will look for another job if they feel they are under surveillance. Finally, Many employees need to improve their skills with the aim of staying in their current role. Preventing of leaving the organization and the heavy costs involved, can be achieved by teaching occupational skills to staff. Because it increases employee loyalty and keeps their skill set relevant. To summarize, job satisfaction and self-confidence are the prime aspects of employment that should be ensured by organizations. In addition, the welfare, personal, and professional enhancement of employees should be considered besides the attainment of the traditional profit motive.
