Food can be produced much cheaply, with the use of improved fertilizers and better machinery. However, some methods may be dangerous for human health, and have negatives effects of local communities. To what extent do you think its disadvantages outweigh its advantages?

Thanks to better-quality fertilizers and modern machinery, food production and processing have become easier, both at home and in factories. However, it has its repercussions on individuals and local communities in several ways. This essay evaluates whether its demerits outweigh its merits. To begin with, a major drawback of modern food production is its dependence on chemicals. For example, many of these chemicals, such as Endosulfan, badly affect human life. Constant use of fertilizers destroys the natural disease-resistant capacity of food products and render them prone to diseases, consumption of which unhealthy. Besides, the internationalization of the food industry with its dependance on chemical ingredients such colors, aditives and preservatives, is causing harm to human health. Moreover, a recent study has revealed that without the use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides, agriculural products would have been only 5% less than those produced through intensive farming. Thus, we could have maintained the natural composition of soil and biodiversity. Furthermore, many people depend heavily on food items which come from alien lands. Many fruits have developed abnormalities due to use of chemicals and lost their qualities. Many fruits and vegetables lose their nutrients when they are tranported and stored for a long time. Besides, neglecting local food productions results in farming communities loosing their livelihood. Overall, although intensive farming has made production of food much easier and has been a success initially, it has been found to be harmful to the human health, besides affecting local farmers. Therefore, food production utilizing advnced fertilizers and technology has more demerits than merits.
