Travelling is one activity that most people enjoy and which has become more popular than ever in the last decades. It is thought that the majority of places have noticed its consequences and tourists bring them more disadvantages than advantages. Nevertheless, this essay completely disagree with this statement and will explain the reasons why.
Tourism is one of the main sources of employment. The more people frequent a town, the more people are needed to give the visitors the best attention as, when they travel, they want to find a wide variety of good services. Therefore, if a city receive a multitude of visitors, it will need, for example, a number of waiters so customers do not have to wait too long for what they have ordered. Furthermore, new occupations are required such as tour guides, since tourists like to learn about the landmarks and history of the place that they are visiting, hence someone who can explain that information is hired.
Moreover, tourists improve the economic situation of the countries they go to. Travellers spend money not only on tours and in restaurants but also in the local commerce. Everyone wants to buy an object to put in their homes that reminds them of their trip when they look at it. This means that when they seek souvenirs, they can find them in small stores owned by locals where buyers leave money, helping them to survive and raise their families thanks to the increase of income that without tourism could not have been possible.
In conclusion, although some people may think that rise of tourism has more drawbacks than benefits, that is not true as it is extremely helpful to the improvement of the towns, especially in their economy.
