children`s exposure to IPV and DV in Iran
children`s exposure to IPV and DV in Iran bJl2Q
Building on the skills and knowledge I have gained through my master's research, my doctoral project proposes to examine how children`s exposure to Intimate Partner Violence (CEIPV) and domestic violence (CEDV) is a form of child abuse in Iran. Besides, this project will evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of CEDV and CEIPV in the same country. Despite the widespread prevalence of child abuse and IPV in Iran based on published statistics, no studies have been conducted on the negative effects of exposure to IPV on children. Moreover, although there are several researches on CEDV, they often consider men as the main perpetrators of domestic violence (DV), and women are the victims so my doctoral research will consider both men and women as IPV and DV perpetrators.
To better understand the children`s experiences of exposure, my research will address three specific research questions. First, what is the prevalence of DV and IPV in Iran? Second, is children's exposure to IPV and DV a risk factor affecting their social, behavioral, psychological, and academic impairments? And third, do children experience IPV and DV through both mothers and fathers? In order to answer these questions, I plan to use a mixed-method approach which will include surveys with the public and students and semi-structured interviews with experts that will combine my ability in quantitative and qualitative research.
Finally, the opportunity to pursue a Ph. D. will not only boost my progress as an academic but also allow me to use my abilities to further my commitment to contribute to positive changes. Through the completion of my doctoral research, I am confident that I will be able to gain a comprehensive view of the prevalence of IPV and DV in Iran. Additionally, this project will provide me with an understanding of the experiences of children who are exposed to maternal and paternal IPV and DV as well as the impact of this exposure as a risk factor on their development. The publication of my findings to child welfare organizations will help to facilitate positive changes by informing policymakers about children`s issues to ensure that they will uphold effective strategies so as to prevent more problems experienced by children. Ultimately, my research will facilitate Iran’s health and social science research by understanding the risk factors which threaten children's health and will provide international communities and other countries with the opportunity to comprehend social harm in this country.
